Modernization of Mozyr Oil refinery. Stage 1

In May-June 2018, there was performed the project of transportation of oversized and heavy-weight equipment from Western Europe to the city of Mozyr, Republic of Belarus, to the Mozyr Refinery. The cargo was delivered simultaneously from the port of Ortona, Italy, from the vendor of the vacuum column - Walter Tosto Company (42.5x9.5x9.5 m, weight 303 tons) and from Linz, Austria, where the vendor Kremsmuller Industrieanlagenbau KG prepared for shipment the separator of acid flare (14.8x5,97x5,94m, weight – 61 tons). For transportation of cargo from Italy, there was chartered motor vessel of BigLift Company. Type of transport was selected by taking into account the capacity of cranes and a low draft of the vessel for the passage to the port loading Ortona, Italy and to the river port of Kherson, Ukraine. Another challenge in the arranging of logistics was the fact that the cargo from Italy and Austria arrived to the port of Kherson, Ukraine, simultaneously for transshipment onto two barges and transportation along the rivers of Ukraine and the Republic of Belarus to Mozyr.

The dates of arrival of the tug and tow to the Mozyr berth coincided with the period of high water level in the Pripyat river and the flooding of the berth. Therefore, it was not possible to roll out cargo from barges. In order to solve this problem, after the arrival of the barges there was organized the construction of the dam and pumping the water out from the formed “pocket”. Only after these operations, the rolling out operations began. The dimensions of the “pocket” did not allow to unload cargo from both barges simultaneously, therefore the operations were performed twice, for each barge separately. The rolling out of the column with weight of 303 tons was performed by 32-axle modular trailer. The route from the berth to the construction site of Mozyr Refinery was about 15 km and took 2 days. High-voltage power lines were de-energized along the route. Despite the significant dimensions of cargo, transit time of delivery took only 25 days, which is almost a record for the transportation along the territory of 3 countries with the transshipments at 2 ports.
